Frequently Asked Questions

Everything homeowners and builders ask us about our 100% New Zealand wool carpet — from where to see it in person, to how it's grown, to keeping it looking its best for years to come.

Buying & Stockists

Can I buy Station Collective carpet directly from this website?
No — Station Collective isn't sold online or direct from this site. Our carpets are available exclusively through our retail partner LivSpace, and through CARTERS trade branches for builders. Use the Store Finder to find your nearest branch and arrange a consultation.
What's the difference between LivSpace and CARTERS?
LivSpace is our showroom partner, where homeowners can meet a flooring consultant and view samples in person. CARTERS branches serve builders and trade customers with project-ready quoting and on-site check measures.
How much does Station Collective wool carpet cost?
Pricing depends on the range you choose, the size of your space, and installation requirements, so we don't list prices online. Book a consultation with your nearest LivSpace branch for an accurate quote.
What happens after I get in touch — what's the process?
It's three steps. First, you meet with your LivSpace consultant, who works with you (and your builder, if you have one) to identify the right flooring for your design, budget and lifestyle. Second, you review and confirm your design specs and any other details. Third, we work with you and your builder to arrange installation and billing.
Can I get a sample before I decide?
Yes. Each range page lets you add colourways to a sample cart and preview them in a room setting with our room visualiser before you visit a store. Speak to your LivSpace consultant about getting physical samples in hand.

Our Wool & Ranges

What is Station Collective?
Station Collective is a curated collection of 100% New Zealand wool carpets, grown on high-country stations across Aotearoa and crafted for the Kiwi lifestyle. We're proudly owned and operated by Wools of New Zealand, a 100% farmer-owned company — so every range carries the name of one of our partner stations.
Is the wool traceable to a specific farm?
Each range is named after one of our partner stations, but the wool itself is traceable to New Zealand as a whole rather than a single farm — wool from several of our grower families is blended together to make each carpet batch. Wools of New Zealand is 100% farmer-owned, and we trade wool on behalf of the farmers who grow it.
What ranges are available, and how do they differ?
Our current ranges are Haywards, Benmore, Melrose, Fairview, Beckford, Belmont and Ratanui, with Clairmont coming soon. Ranges vary by pile type (loop or cut pile), pile weight and texture — for example, Clairmont is a 60oz luxury heathered loop pile, while other ranges suit different rooms and levels of foot traffic. Full specifications are listed on each range's page.
Is wool carpet warmer than synthetic carpet?
Yes. Wool is a natural insulator, so it helps keep rooms warmer in winter and cooler in summer, and feels noticeably warmer underfoot than synthetic fibres — one of the reasons it suits New Zealand homes so well.

Sustainability & Health

Is Station Collective wool carpet sustainable?
Yes. Our wool is a natural, renewable resource — free-ranging, rain-washed and sustainably farmed on land that's been in our families for generations. Grown year after year, it's fully biodegradable at the end of its life, unlike synthetic fibres.
Is wool carpet a good choice for allergies and air quality?
Yes. Wool fibres trap dust and pollen out of the breathing zone — the particles are too large to become airborne again easily — and wool naturally purifies indoor air. Station Collective is a proud Gold Sponsor of Asthma New Zealand.
Is wool carpet fire safe?
Yes. Wool is naturally flame-resistant. Our carpets are tested to a Critical Radiant Flux fire rating of 2.2 kW/m² under conventional installation, well suited to residential use.
Who grows the wool, and is it ethically produced?
Our wool is grown by New Zealand farming families — long-term guardians of hill-country land that's often been farmed for generations. As a 100% farmer-owned company, Wools of New Zealand exists to bring the value of that wool back to the people who grow it.

Care, Warranty & Durability

Is it normal for a new wool carpet to shed?
Yes, some shedding is a normal part of owning a wool carpet, especially in the first few months after installation, as small loose fibres work their way out with everyday use. It doesn't affect the quality, strength or lifespan of your carpet, and usually settles within three to four months with regular vacuuming.
How do I care for my wool carpet?
Vacuum weekly using a suction-only vacuum with a static head — suitable for both cut pile and loop pile — and attend to spills promptly. An adjustable rotating brush head can occasionally help lift loose fibres, but make sure the brush height doesn't touch or pull at the pile.
Is Station Collective carpet durable enough for kids and pets?
Yes. Wool fibres are naturally strong and resilient, and our ranges are rated for Residential Extra Heavy Duty use and stairs — durable enough for kids, dogs and everyday family life, while still looking and feeling great.
What warranty comes with Station Collective carpet?
Our ranges carry a 10–15 year warranty, depending on the range. Full terms are available as a downloadable warranty document on each range's page. Note that stain-repellent treatments containing silicone or bleach can void the warranty, so always check the care instructions first.
